For the latest version which was released in November 2015, the towns and cities were categorized according to median home values. Tolland CT falls into the $200,000 – $250,000 category with a median home value of $245,500. Tolland is a town located in Tolland County, Connecticut and is located just 31 minutes from Hartford CT, 44 minutes from Springfield MA and just 34 minutes from Bradley International Airport. Looking for a day or weekend trip to a big city? Vernon is located just 1 hour and 30 minutes from Boston MA and just 2 hours and 44 minutes from New York City.
The town population at the 2010 census was 15.052 with a population density of 372.6 people per square mile. The median income for a household was $95,632, east of the river, Tolland is 2nd in highest incomes of residents, coming in behind only Glastonbury. What that means for you is that the town has a strong attraction for affluent white collar residents but stays true to it’s roots as an affordable small working class town. Tolland does have a small town country feel to it, however, it does not feel like a farm town as much as some neighboring towns such as Ellington or East Windsor. Several times in the past few years, Tolland has been ranked among “Best places to live in America” by CNN/Money magazine in the “small town” category.
Residents of Tolland Connecticut, enjoy a classic New England small town with a mix of neighborhoods built for the baby boomer generation and more recent luxury developments. Tolland’s parks showcase the towns natural beauty and they offer something for everyone. Most notably is Crandalls Park, which is the towns main park. This park boasts over 400 acres, 20 acres being developed and the remaining is undeveloped land. Features of the park include a beach and swimming area, play area for children, baseball/softball fields, tennis courts, basketball court, hiking trails as well as a lodge that can be rented for parties. Another great park in town is Cross Farms, which recently added a boundless playground named Adam’s Adventure and will open in spring of 2016. Don’t forget about the 2 other great parks, Heron Cave and River Park, which can be enjoyed year round by the residents of Tolland.
Perhaps one of the most appealing features of living in Tolland CT is the absence of any major business districts or large shopping centers to congest and detract from the natural beauty of the town. As the town has grown, a Big Y Supermarket was developed to provide the growing population with the modern day conveniences of a large grocery store. However, there is not any major big box retailers within the town. As far as local business, one has become quite a popular sports destination for the region and is called Star Hill Family Athletic Center which is a 105,000 square foot sports dome where you can play soccer, flag football, volleyball, lacrosse, basketball and features an indoor pool and fitness center!
Dining options in Tolland can be limited, and a lot of town residents will travel to neighboring towns for popular dining destinations. However, there are some really great local mom and pop options to choose from. Including Camille’s Wood Fired Pizza which gets rave reviews on the apps, pizza and craft beers from everyone who dines there. Another notable restaurant in Tolland is Papa T’s which is a classic family restaurant and has been a go-to option for residents for quite some time.

Keep in mind, Tolland CT is not a town where there is a lot of entertainment businesses and organized events such as fairs or car shows etc. However, the good news is this is something that residents do not have to travel far for. Right up the road is UCONN and everything that is offered around the campus. Also, the highway runs through town and the major destinations in the area are only a short drive away. Tolland recently started a full day kindergarten program and was very well received by parents in town. Within town, there are four public schools, Birch Grove Primary School which hosts grades k-2, Tolland Intermediate School which hosts grades 3-5, Tolland Middle Schools which hosts grades 6-8 and Tolland High School which hosts grades 9-12.
